2013 Beach Replenishment Update
Monmouth County
Projects Completed: Monmouth Beach; Sea Bright in process.
Fall Schedule: The Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to begin a major beach restoration project to replenish beaches between Belmar and Manasquan. The work in Manasquan will begin by the first week of November. Operations are expected to begin in Sea Girt after the December completion of work in Manasquan, according to the Army Corp of Engineers. Hurricane Sandy ripped about 5 million cubic yards of sand from the coast between Sea Bright and Manasquan. The corps plans to replace that with about 8 million cubic yards, officials said.
Ocean County
Projects Completed: Brant Beach, Harvey Cedars, Surf City
Fall Schedule: Mantoloking and Brick have received federal and state approval to erect a steel seawall that will be covered by sand and form the base of a makeshift dune system. It is meant as a short-term protective measure prior to an extensive Corps beach widening and dune construction project yet to be scheduled.
Atlantic County
Completed: Brigantine, Northern Ocean City
Fall Schedule: Ventnor, Atlantic City is ongoing
Cape May County
Completed: Avalon, Stone Harbor, North Wildwood (municipal project)
Fall Schedule: Cape May City
