Restoration Plan For Sandy Hook’s Fort Hancock Announced

The National Park Service has announced a redevelopment plan for a phased pilot program to restore the 35 historic buildings at Fort Hancock. The first phase would start with six buildings – two each for B&Bs, residential and community designations. The Park Service is taking on the rehabilitation of a seventh building that would be used for short-term leases for vacation rentals. All agreements would be leases, not sales, from the National Park Service.   The plan was announced at the July meeting of the 21st Century Fort Hancock Advisory Committee by Gateway Superintendent Jennifer Nersesian. The Committee applauded this first step. Requests for Proposals will be ready for review by the Committee in September, 2014.
